Get Off My Lawn, You Damn Childrens! I Just Had It Shampooed!

Been a rather busy week. I've been involving myself in the cleaning-out of Sarah and Mein's old place, working and sleeping when I'm not doing any of those two, and being rather sick. I have one hell of a cold that's caused me to miss out on the past two shifts of work, and it's not making the one I'm in now enjoyable.

I've also begun chanelling the spirit of an 80-year-old, so expect blog entries about my ailments and children being on my lawn and so forth as opposed to other topics that you've come to expect when visiting this blog. Topics like purchases of new CDs...

(Porcupine Tree's 'Stupid Dream', which has cool upside-down text on its album cover, which makes it slightly more difficult to read, and Mastodon's 'Blood Mountain', which reminds me an awful lot of an idea Chris had to start a metal band called 'Blood Pudding')

...and posts about why I like/dislike certain bands or types of music...

(the thing is, Silverchair have totally sold out. They, like, are signed to a label or some shit. What's with that? It used to be about the music, man. Anyway, anyone who plays to a 4/4 is lame. Pink Floyd are cool.)

...just aren't gonna happen any more.

Incidentally, I'm writing this from work as I no longer have an internet connection on my PC. I'll have to hijack Pref's wireless when I get home.

Ooh, I've just watched the first season of Arrested Development again. 'Tis good stuff. Better use of cutaways than Family Guy, partly because they cut away to scenes that are generally relevant to the episode. Whoa.

Just started the second season, too, which seems to be equally good so far.

Oh...Your...God...

See, I dig chess. And I like the Alien series. And Predators are also cool.

When you combine Aliens and Predators, you get films that are kinda fundamentally silly, but still appeal to me because, well, you've combined Aliens and Predators.

Now, when you throw chess into the equation, I start to lose control of my bladder.

Sorry if that was too much information.

McSpyware Burger!

I received an email today about a press release stating that McDonald's restaurants in Japan were giving out MP3 players as prizes to customers that turned out to be loaded with rather effective spyware.

They ended up recalling them when people realized what was going on. I wonder how much they knew about it beforehand.

And yes, that wasn't actually the press release, but I had to link the article to some text somewhere.

Digital Cameras Should Be Banned By The Commoners: Exhibit A.

Blimey.

If It Ain't Broke, Fix It 'till It Is.

We've been trying to figure out a new name for the band. The working title so far is 'Zombie Rhythm Section', which is certainly interesting.

Lucas and I threw together a list of songs that we have been playing and given them each titles. The reason for this is because identifying songs by name is very convenient when deciding what to play, as opposed to '...that song that sounds kinda like a cross between Tom Waits' take on King Kong and a band-saw'.

I scared the hell out of Lucas by lending him 'Miss Machine', Dillinger Escape Plan's most recent album. Three words:

That was fun.

I should be well and truly out of here by the end of the month, too. I was convinced to move back in with me Ma by, well...me Ma. Probably some sort of punishment for not winning her a caravan or something.

I have decided that this will hopefully motivate me to spend as much time as possible coming up with music and putting together a decent recording system, which I keep talking about but not going about.

You may notice that I messed with my blog again. I like how it looks. The sidebar links are now rendered very impractical, since you now need to use your cursor to read them. Hooray! It was so fun, I might do that to all of the text!

Less Worky...More Money?

Well, it is apparent that I will be able to switch to part-time at my current place of worky. This is good news, as I may be able to put more time in to writing/recording music. The only reason I am holding back on this (which I am) is because it won't quite cover me comfortably enough while still being able to buy nice things, like guitars and audio interfaces and mixers and sombreros. This meant that I'd only be able to take this opportunity when Sarah and I moved out at the end of the year to somewhere cheaper.

So when she dropped a bombshell that she wanted to move out to her own place, she kind of gave a little and took a little away...and took a little more away. Waaaah.

This means that we will be moving out before the end of the year as well which means, as I'll be looking for a place that much noise can be made, Poweranimal will have a proper rehearsal space. As opposed to upstairs at my mum's place. You know, where there was less than twenty metres from the neighboring houses.

This is merely an idealised scenario, unfortunately. It is more likely that I will have no time to look for a place and end up moving back in with the family. I'll try and make sure that doesn't have to happen, mainly by not being too picky about where I end up living, but it's a scenario I can't rule out.

May have to look for a new band name, too. Poweranimal won't cut it. Here's why. Probably wouldn't be such a problem is they weren't signed to a major label, but through a strange twist of fate, this obscure band with a myspace page actually is.

What blog entry of mine would be complete without a review of a CD of some sort? None, that's what!

Finally ended up getting my paws on The Campfire Headphase, the most recent Boards Of Canadia (damn you, Lucas) album. 'Tis a nice one. Their samples are less obscured in this release, and as quite a few backing tracks are simple samples of guitar riffs, it makes for a slight change of pace than their previous stuff. I remember there being a lot of hype from the fanbase about the usage of guitars in this one, but it doesn't seem to change their sound that much. They're still samples and, like the rest of the samples they use, these are used to create texture in each track that they're in. The difference in sound comes from the fact that the samples seem less BOC'd than usual. But not too much less.

Also, through Craig, I now have a copy of 'Has Been', William Shatner's album. Surprisingly, it's not bad. You heard me.

It even has Henry Rollins doing guest vocals (rather funny guest vocals!) in 'I Can't Get Behind That' (which is probably the stand-out track).

The point is, I've actually listened to this album not once, not twice, but thrice since I got it. And I might just listen to it again.

And just like most music reviews I make, I'll probably disown this one in less than a month, just like I did with pretty much every other one I can think of.

Except for the good stuff about BOC. Those guys rock.
